Welcome to Reception

Mrs Harris, Mrs Southerton and Mrs Evans

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Chance, Mrs Mears & Mrs Eaton

We are looking forward to getting to know you and your family and helping your child settle into school life at Newton.

There are lots of ways to support your child through these exciting first weeks

for example:

  • supporting your child's independence by encouraging them to organise their own belongings in the mornings
  • encouraging early bed times
  • getting to school in time for the bell at 8.55 am
  • naming all items of clothing (including shoes) and water bottles
  • talking to your child about their school experience (if they want to)

Week Ending 16/11/18

* We have been reading 'THINGS I LIKE!' by Anthony Browne. We have wrote sentences about 'The Things I like'.

* We have been talking about Anti Bullying Week - Choose Respect and have focused on the book "Only One You' by Karen Kranz. We took part in the Anti Bullying whole school assembly.

* We have really enjoyed planning, painting, decorating, finishing off and talking about our pebbles. On Friday morning we placed our own pebble onto the 'Only One You' pathway at the front of school.

* We have been measuring objects using the vocabulary; short, shorter, shortest, long, longer, longest, tall, taller tallest etc.

* We have continued with phonics sessions and been working on the sounds o, c, k, ck.

*We had our first school trip to the VUE cinema to watch 'The Giant Pear'. The children's behaviour was super and they all had a lovely time. They retold the story and painted pictures of their own giant pear boat!

Your child will be bringing home their homework folder on Friday. The cursive alphabet/ number formation sheet and your child's cursive name are included for your information.

  • Christmas Cups - fill with goodies and decorate with a Christmas theme.
  • phonic sound sheet
